Town days of Spišská Nová Ves and Folk crafts fair
Every year, the end of summer belongs to Genius temporis - Spirit of the time. Downtown becomes a scene of the traditional event called the Town days.
Town days offer a rich cultural program. Spišská Nová Ves Town Days are accompanied by the Crafts Fair. It offers handmade products from different tradesmen from Slovakia and Czech Republic in almost 100 stalls. The festival presents traditional crafts such as wood carving, production of decorative gingerbread, smithery, basketry, weaving, jewellery, shingle making, tinkering, metalworking, beekeeping, leather processing, production of bobbin lace and ceramics, or flax processing...
The accompanying program is thematically focused on the selected historical period. Last time visitors could go back in time to the 19th and 20th century. The whole cultural program reflects a spirit of the age. As a part of the program, Peter Karpinský and actors of Divadlo teatrálnej skratky (theatre ensemble) introduce to the visitors an important event from the history of the town through a historical dramatic piece.
This way our town was visited by Maria Theresa - during 360 years of the so-called Polish Lease, Konrád Gaal established significant Gothic bell foundry, stormy circumstances before the construction of Reduta building revived and so on.
The program does not lack various performances of hawkers, knight fights, dance and music of that time, fairy tale stories, period processions or an exhibition of historical cars. Clowns and Group of historical fencing Jago will take care of the entertainment.
For children there is a wooden knightly equipment, a wooden merry-go-round and a wooden theatre wagon with puppet performances, songs and games available.
On Sunday the event is usually completed with the Spiš Trophy horse race. The competition is held in the equestrian area near Ferčekovce.
There is a road closure on Letná street during the event!
