Reduta - exterior

Reduta is an Art Nouveau building built within the years 1899 - 1902. Until today, there are only 8 similar historically valuable theatre buildings preserved in Slovakia. An architect Kálmán Gerster designed the building in Spišská Nová Ves in the way, that besides the theatre a hotel, concert hall in the middle of the building and also a café were incorporated in it.

This romantic looking building with four turrets is characterized by a swan sitting on a lyre, indicating where in the building the theatre is located. Above the portal of the theatre curtain there is an oil painting by the prominent Slovak painter Jozef Hanula.

Reduta nowadays houses the Spiš Theatre, the Town Cultural Centre, local TV Reduta and restaurant with a café.

The concert hall thanks to its unique acoustics is used for organizing concerts of various music genres and representative social events.
